Customer Q&A: How do I handle shipping income?

"How do I enter in a income of shipping. On some of my customer purchases there is a shipping expense they pay that I take in as income. What do you recommend I do for this shipping category?"

Our response:

"First, you'll want to go to the 'Settings' tab and click on the 'Categories' link on the left side.  You will then see all of the possible categories that can be used in Outright.  Under the Income Categories, check the box next to 'other income'.  Now, when you go back to the 'Income' tab, you should see a drop down menu for each transaction where you can choose an income category.  You can use the 'other income' category for those shipping charges."

"We will be working on the ability for customers to add their own categories, but in the mean time, this should work for you and will roll up properly on your Schedule C tax form."
